Join textile artist Ursula Westwood and create a stunning felted winter scene of the Northern Lights, using a combination of wet and needle felting techniques.
In this hands-on masterclass, Ursula will guide you with laying out beautifully soft merino wool in vibrant colours to create the first part of your landscape picture. You will be able to explore different hues using colourful fibres to paint your own wool picture of the Northern Lights! This will then be wet felted using soap and hot water.
The second stage of creating the piece of felt will be to add details to the sky, and a forest of intense colours and deeper tones along with needle felted details. You will also the opportunity to add some embroidered stitches for stars.
This project combines the traditional method of making felt fabric with useful and practical advice, and opportunity to add detail using finer needle felting techniques, which will help finish your picture with creative touches.
By the end of the class, you'll leave with a beautifully finished felted picture, and the confidence to create more felt at home.
During this masterclass you will learn:
• How to layout wool fibres in fine layers
• How to make felt using the wet felting technique
• How to draw with wool fibres, using wool shaping techniques
• How to add details using needle felting techniques

Ursula Westwood
Ursula is a felt artist and art teacher and has been making felt for
over 26 years. She has a shop in Warwick selling her felt work, and teaching felt making workshops, in landscapes, needle felting and 3D felted flowers. She has sold her work throughout shops in the UK and abroad. Her workshops and parties serve all ages, and she has fabulous reviews, mainly due to her endless patience and attention to detail!
