During this fun hand sewing class you will complete a showerproof cross body bag using a black fabric panel pre-lined with colourful fabric.
Helen will show you how to hand stitch the bag sides together, attach a button fastening and thread a leather cord through a stitched channel to form the strap. Printed step-by-step instructions of how to tie the adjustable strap knots will be supplied for you to take away.
60-minute workshop – cost £20.00
Advisory Note:
This workshop is suitable for sewers over the age of 16 with some experience.
Please note: the fabric layers are quite tough to stitch together, so thimbles will be supplied if required.
Meet the Tutor
Helen McKenna
Helen originally learned to sew as a child making clothes for her dolls. As a teenager she would rush to buy fabric after school to make something for a Saturday night out. A City and Guilds in Fashion followed and then one in Creative Embroidery too.
As part of a stitching group Helen’s work was exhibited locally and further afield. Then a chance conversation whilst visiting a textile show, led to Helen attaining BA Hons first class in Contemporary Applied Art in 2007. In that same year Helen became a finalist in the Hand and Lock embroidery competition.
Although no longer part of the stitching group, Helen continues to find inspiration through workshops, exhibitions and visiting galleries. She has been involved with demonstrating and teaching at ICHF Events for 15 years and is looking forward to the Glasgow show.
Please note tickets are non-refundable.
* Show times are subject to change. Please check the ICHF Events website for up to date timings.
