Learn the 400-year old craft of Dorset button making with Gini from Gini’s Dorset Buttons. In this class you will complete Dorset buttons to embellish and embroider on to a natural canvas pouch; perfect for a make up bag or even a pencil case.

While crafting Gini will tell you all about the history of buttons and how the original hand made button industry started. You will not only learn how to make these fascinating buttons, but what else they can be used for and the various materials you can use, plus all the tips you need for success.

Meet the Tutor

Louise Armitage, aka ‘Gini’, has been teaching and keeping the 400-year old traditional craft of Dorset buttons alive for 34 years. An old lady originally taught Gini from Dorset, whose family skills had been passed down from generation to generation. Gini made a promise to her that she would continue to teach other people and pass on the skills. Over the years Gini has kept this promise and taught individuals and workshops all over the UK and around the world. With fun new unique and modern designs she has kept the craft interesting and easy for all ages, bringing this traditional craft up-to-date.
